Airhead by Meg Cabot 28/03/2012

“Airhead” is a realistic, teen-fiction book by Meg Cabot. Emerson Watts is not herself. Literally. Em is nothing like any of the other girls at her school. She’s a tomboy while the rest are what she calls the “Walking Dead”. A new SoHo Stark Megastore is opening downtown and the british hottie, Gabriel Luna, is going to be there. Oh and not to mention the Face of Stark, teen supermodel Nikki Howard. When Em and her sister attend the grand opening of the store, a peculiar accident takes place and Em is knocked out. Next thing she knows, she’s lying in a hospital bed in someone else’s body. More specifically, Nikki Howard’s body. Em thinks she’s hallucinating but it is reality. Kidnapped from the hospital by Nikki’s BFF Lulu Collins, and her boyfriend Brandon Stark, Em is hopelessly confused. As Lulu and Brandon think she is Nikki, Em comes across a discovery that changes her life. Em Watts is gone. And Nikki Howard is here to stay.

One of my favourite scenes was when she finds out that the hospital performed whole-body transplant on her. She’s in Nikki’s loft because Lulu and Brandon kidnapped her. They keep calling her Nikki and she keeps telling them she’s Em Watts. Lulu thinks it’s a spirit transfer but Em knows that no such thing exists. She thinks back to the time she and her best friend, Christopher, watched a documentary about brain transplants. Then she realizes her brain is transplanted into Nikki Howard’s body. She goes to the hospital and the doctor tells her that in the accident, Em’s heart stopped beating but her brain was still alive. On the other hand, Nikki’s brain got damaged but her heart was still beating. So they decided to transplant. I really like this scene because Meg Cabot really grabs the reader with the interesting combination of advanced science with teen issues. She also writes from Em’s perspective really well, almost like a simulation of a person who is hallucinating and going a bit mad. I also didn’t expect it to be a brain transplant.

Another scene I enjoyed was when Em goes back to her school, TAHS, this time as Nikki Howard. She secretly has a crush on her best friend, Christopher, but now he doesn’t even know her. Anyways, in this scene she tries to get Christopher to notice her but she miserably fails. She asks him to help her set up her school email. While he is setting it up, she tries to converse with him about video games. He is shocked because you wouldn’t expect a teen-supermodel to be playing video games. It only makes him more shy as she mentions Journeyquest, their favourite game. She also tries fluttering her eyelashes but he gives her the cold shoulder. I thought this was quite humourous as Em probably forgot no one would remember her except her parents. It was also written in a very comedic way whenever Em got offended because he was ignoring her.

I would rate this book 5 stars because I really enjoyed the plotline’s twist. I would recommend this book to teenage girls. Boys, well, might lose interest as it is filled with girl issues. I loved the book and am looking forward to reading the sequel.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins 28/03/2012

“Catching Fire” is an adventure, romance book by Suzanne Collins. The sequel to the Hunger games, this book starts where we left off. Following their victory, Katniss and Peeta have new fancy homes in Victors Village. They have far more money than they used to have and they have a Victory tour coming up. But as Katniss and Peeta tour the districts, there are rumours of a rebellion against the capitol they may have helped to create. Katniss is required to keep up her mad-lovers cover with Peeta to stop the rebels. To top it off, this year’s Hunger games is special as it is one of the Quarter Quell games, the 75th Hunger Games. Each Quarter Quell a new rule is added to make the games more interesting and special. At the previous Quarter Quell, the districts had to enter twice the number of tributes. This year, the rules require that only the names of previous victors in the district can be reaped. That means Katniss must go back into the Arena with either Haymitch or Peeta. Though Katniss is still tormented by last years games, she knows she must go back and make it out alive. The Games begin and the end shocks you, leaving you with your mouth hanging open.

One of my favourite scenes was when Wiress from District 3 keeps murmuring, “Tick, tock. Tick, tock.” Because no one seems to know what she is saying, almost as if she has gone mad. But when Katniss attends to her, she says it urgently and Katniss figures out the Arena is a clock divided into zones where various disasters strike like the fog and the blood rain. I like this scene because Suzanne Collins writes it with a very mysterious way. She leaves it to the end like you would never expect those pair of words to mean anything.

Another one of my favourite scenes was the part where Katniss meets Twill and Bonnie from District 8 who tell her rumours about District 13. According to the Capitol, District 13 was blown up. Twill says that in the footage of Justice Building, you can see a mockingjay in the far right-hand corner. I thought this was really interesting because the Capitol could actually be hiding something from the rest of the Districts. Or perhaps District 13 are hiding from view to go against the Capitol. The way this part is written is almost like a mystery book as you find out something really queer that plays an important part in the story.

In my opinion, the Hunger games was a lot better than Catching Fire because it kept the action in it. Catching Fire was mostly about how they had to stop the revolution by pretending Katniss and Peeta were madly in love. I rate this book about 4 stars because it still had a good plot line with the idea of a secret District 13 and the Quarter Quell Games. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure, boy or girl.

Dim Sum Sunday 23/12/2011

Wow, It's sure been a long time since I've posted up a post on this blog. Anyways, I've decided to direct my blog a bit more to the idea of 'FOOD' and 'RECIPES' etc. So my family loves cooking as much as I do. We decided to try to make some dim sum. My mum had bought a steamer and it was ready to be used. We decided on making a Dim Sum Sunday Lunch. My sisters and my mum began preparing the dough while my dad and I went to the supermarket to pick up last-minute ingredients. At the supermarket, we managed to get most ingredients that we needed. I suggested buying some green tea to heat up, therefore making this lunch an authentic chinese lunch. As soon as we got back home, My dad started rolling the dough while my mom made the fillings for the dumplings. My twin sister and I worked on rolling up the dumplings with the filling while my older sister made the noodles. It was a noisy day in the kitchen, everyone occupied with their jobs. My dad decided to play some traditional chinese music to make an even more authentic feel to the lunch. While we had opera singers in the background, we managed to make a full batch of dim sum. We also fried some spring rolls whilst the dim sum was steaming. Lunch was served and the food was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to try different themed lunches with my family again. Everyone was involved and it brought us some family bonding time. My family better do another everyone-cooking lunch soon, I have my eye on Mediterranean themed.

An AWESOME Saturday! 20/08/2011

Today was a really awesome Saturday! I went Ice Skating with my friends at Leisure Park. It was so FUN! I felt so free on the ice and I had to teach one of my friends how to skate so it was really enjoyable. I fell like 3 times because I am not a professional ice skater. Definitely NOT. They were playing tons of awesome songs like 'Party Rock Anthem' and 'On the Floor' and 'Like a G6'. I just wanted to stay there forever! But they had to clean the ice and our time was over. Then we went to the video arcade where we played basketball and those candy and stuffed toy machines. We tried like 15 times to get candy and the little kitten stuffed toy and then, just when we moved to another game, the person after us won the kitten! I felt so jealous! Just before we left the mall, we went to get Vanilla Frappucinos at Starbucks and French Fries from Burger King. The food was AWESOME. I can't wait to meet up with my friends again and do something like this again!

I bet all of you have seen the epic end to one of the greatest series in the world, Harry Potter! Well if you haven't, then this review is to let you know that you gotta see it!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is an action packed thriller. I agree that it is a great ending to the Harry Potter movies. The movie starts at Shell Cottage, where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna, Griphook and Mr. Ollivander are in hiding, after the recent events at Malfoy Manor (Ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1). Voldemort has found the elder wand. Dobby is now dead. Harry, Ron and Hermione have only destroyed 3 horcruxes and they have 4 more to go. They suspect that there is a horcrux hidden in Bellatrix's Vault because she was terrified when she heard someone had stolen the sword of Godric Gryffindor. She kept asking what else they had taken. So it's a mad dash for horcruxes. Though they need to kill the horcruxes before Voldemort finds them. It all leads into a historic 'Battle of Hogwarts' as Voldemort wants to kill Harry. Will Harry survive or not? Watch the shocking ending of the series in cinemas! I rate this movie 5 stars because it is thrilling and emotional, always keeping you on the edge of your seat. For a magical experience, watch it in IMAX 3D! It is amazing.

The Final Bow!
We just recently finished our absolutely smashing broadway Jr. musical Once On This Island Jr. It was absolutely phenomenal according to my mother. I was one of the Gods. Specifically, Asaka who is the Mother of the Earth. I would like to thank both my music teacher and drama teacher for choosing this production because it was just so FUN! I really enjoyed doing it even though it was really tough and the rehearsals were like super late so I was pretty exhausted by the time I went back home but it was worth it. The dances were fun and the songs were really entertaining. It had 14 songs and a bit of script in between some songs. I got to sing solos in many of the songs. I really enjoyed this and I can't wait to audition next year for another production!

SUMMER HOLIDAYS! (waiting for the new campus) 20/06/2011

Finally, Summer has started and I am so relieved to be doing anything I want to during the day, waking up at any time I want, sleeping at any time I want and yes! It's just to good to be true :) But not really because I have to attend a tennis camp which is 4 hours a day for 5 days so I'm gonna be exhausted. So that's not really my thing but still! It's a transition from being a Grade 6 to being a Grade 7. I guess now I'm considered a Grade 6/7. And the exciting thing is that on the date August 15th, when my school re-open, I will be in a new campus! Our brand new just finished Tampines Campus! For Grade 6, I was in the temporary campus at Ang Mo Kio but now we make a move. I'm really gonna miss that temporary campus because it was so cozy and easy to go around and it was only a few grades. Though at the new campus, It is HUGE! Even bigger than the Dover campus. Plus I got lost during the tour. And there are grades from K1 up to like G11! It's gonna be a really tough challenge to try to navigate around the school. One of the pros of the upcoming school year is the fact that I get a Macbook Pro! I'm pretty excited about what we can do with that to help our learning. For my summer hols, I'm traveling to Chennai, India in July. My cousin is getting married so I gotta go there! It's gonna be really fun! I have attended about 2-3 of my cousins weddings and they are really fun! The best part is we get to do like a mini talent Show but not for a prize. Just pure entertainment. In an Indian wedding, that is called a Sangeet. Then the other fun part is doing Mehndi (Henna) and they have professionals doing really AWESOME designs for us! I really can't wait to see how my summer is! And visiting all my relatives is the best part! Also, I have my birthday (I guess My twin and my birthday) in the summer, which is really lucky because we can go anywhere! Instead of having your birthday on a school day! So I'm just very excited about this summer.

American Idol Season Finale 15/06/2011

I know its been SOOOOO long since the American Idol Finale but ya. Scotty Won. I don't really like the fact that James was eliminated because I thought like he was gonna win. For girls, I thought Haley was gonna win probably. Surprisingly, she was eliminated. But she has such a good voice!
Out of Lauren and Scotty, I desperately, even though I didn't like either, wanted Lauren to win. To be a girl winner for a change. Well, I think that some of the really good voices in this years season are going to be popping up with new hits of their own. We'll just have to wait and see.

Our school English topic is poetry. Here is a poem I made! Hope you like it!

A poem is not acting but it can be dramatic.
A poem is not bike but it can travel.
A poem is not a camera but it can take picture in your mind.
A poem is not a dog but it can be there for you.
A poem is not an eraser but it can erase memories and write new ones.
A poem is not a fire but it can burn through you.
A poem is not a giraffe but it can be tall.
A poem is not a heart but it can be loving.

Comment if you have anymore that I can add!
